Madisyn A’Miyah Evans, a 17-year-old resident of Newton, Mississippi, was tragically shot and killed on West Church Street on December 23, 2024. She was a student at Newton County High School, where she excelled as a softball player and powerlifter.
The Newton Police Department responded to the shooting shortly after 2:00 p.m. Officers found two juveniles at the scene—a male and a female. Evans, the female victim, suffered a fatal gunshot wound, while the male juvenile was unharmed.
Authorities have taken a person of interest into custody as the investigation remains active. Multiple agencies, including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, the Newton County Sheriff’s Department, and the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, assisted in the response.
