Kierra West dies in fatal Newark, DE car crash

Fatal Newark car crash death of Kierra West – Obituary

Kierra West, a 33-year-old resident of Newark, Delaware, tragically lost her life in a collision involving her Nissan Altima and a New Castle County Paramedic ambulance early on New Year’s Day. The crash occurred around 2:30 a.m. near the I-495 southbound split with I-95.

Authorities report that the ambulance, which had its emergency lights activated, was responding to an unrelated incident when it attempted a lane change and collided with West’s vehicle. Sadly, West was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 6-year-old passenger in the Altima sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Nemours Children’s Hospital for treatment. The driver and passenger of the ambulance were taken to Christiana Hospital, where they remain in stable condition.

Following the collision, the ambulance came to rest on I-95, while the Altima ended up on the left shoulder. Emergency personnel arriving on the scene provided medical assistance to those involved. The southbound section of I-95 was closed for several hours, reopening at approximately 9:30 a.m.

Detectives from New Castle County are seeking witnesses or video footage of the crash. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Kevin Maloney at 302-395-8055 or via email at Kevin.Maloney@newcastlede.gov.
