Police have identified Joanne Carosella as the driver who was killed in a three-car collision on Route 63 in Middlebury on New Year’s Eve. The incident took place just after 11 a.m. on Straits Turnpike, north of Park Road.
Carosella was driving a 2019 Toyota Rav4 at the time of the crash, which also involved a 2020 Cadillac Escalade and a postal vehicle. According to Lt. Ronald Hunt of the Middlebury Police, reports indicated that one vehicle overturned while another caught fire.
Emergency responders transported two of the three drivers, along with a passenger from the Cadillac, to Waterbury Hospital. It is currently unclear whether Carosella was among those taken to the hospital.
Authorities are continuing their investigation to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash. Further details regarding Carosella’s age and residence were not immediately available.
