An experienced pilot, Mark White, and his 69-year-old passenger tragically lost their lives when their light plane crashed into the ocean near Gaagal Wanggaan National Park on the NSW Mid North Coast on Saturday. Emergency services responded to the crash site, approximately 1.5 km southeast of Nambucca Heads, following multiple calls from witnesses who saw the plane go down.
White, aged 67, was an instructor at Midcoast Microlights and was reportedly training his passenger at the time of the crash.
Both men were confirmed dead at the scene after a lengthy recovery operation. The aircraft had taken off from Coffs Harbour about 30 minutes before the incident.
