Fatal Blue Summit roadway death of Everett Carter – Obituary

Everett Carter, a 61-year-old employee of Jackson County, tragically lost his life on Sunday afternoon when he was struck by a dump truck while working to clear snow on a highway near Kansas City.

 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reported that the incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. in the unincorporated area of Blue Summit.

Carter had been riding in the dump truck when the driver stopped to allow him to exit. Moments after stepping out, the truck began sliding on icy pavement, hitting Carter and colliding with a nearby Honda CRV parked on the roadside.

 

Carter was pronounced dead at the scene and later taken to the Jackson County Medical Examiner’s Office. In response to his death, Jackson County Executive Frank White Jr. expressed profound grief, describing Carter as a dedicated public servant who gave 40 years of his life to the community. White offered condolences to Carter’s family, friends, and colleagues, praising his professionalism and commitment.

 

Following the tragic event, Jackson County temporarily suspended all snow removal operations, resuming them the following morning at 7 a.m. The Missouri State Highway Patrol is continuing to investigate the incident.

Carter’s decades-long service, including eight years with the public works department, is remembered with deep appreciation by the community.
