Fatal Rock Island officer-involved shooting death of Jakarta Jackson – Obituary

Jakarta Jackson, 22, lost his life following an encounter with police in Rock Island on Sunday. According to the Rock Island Police Department, the incident occurred near 12th Street and 24th Avenue when officers attempted to detain Jackson.

 

Reports indicate that Jackson entered a vehicle that was already running and, during the altercation, dragged an officer, prompting the officer to fire his weapon. Jackson was fatally wounded as a result.

 

The officer involved has been placed on administrative leave, and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting is ongoing. Authorities have not yet released further details.
