An 18-year-old has been arrested in connection with the December shooting death of 23-year-old Jose Melendez in northeast El Paso.
Alejandro Corral was taken into custody on December 30, following an investigation into the deadly incident at the North Mountain Village Apartments, located at 9435 Diana Drive.
According to the El Paso Police Department, the shooting occurred on the night of December 21, after a fight broke out in the parking lot.
Melendez reportedly tried to intervene during the altercation when he was shot. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Melendez later succumbed to his injuries.
After several weeks of investigation and public requests for information, Corral was identified as a suspect.
He has been charged with murder and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. Corral is currently held in the El Paso County Jail with a combined bond of $650,000.
