Fatal Coal City train accident death of Scott T. Marizza – Obituary
At approximately 3 a.m. on Wednesday, Scott T. Marizza, 40, of Coal City, was struck and killed by a northbound train traveling on tracks north of Illinois Route 113.
Despite the train’s engineer attempting to alert Marizza by sounding the horn and applying the emergency brake, the collision occurred.
Marizza was pronounced dead at 3:45 a.m., though authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding why he was on the tracks.
The Coal City Police Department, along with the Grundy County Coroner’s Office, is conducting further inquiries, with assistance from the Coal City Fire Department and EMS at the scene.
