Fatal Houston County house fire death of Brenda S. Starling – Obituary
Brenda S. Starling, aged 70, tragically lost her life after a devastating house fire in the Ratcliff area of Houston County on Monday night.
The fire claimed her life despite emergency responders’ efforts. Authorities reported that she was found deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the blaze.
Sheriff Zak Benge expressed condolences to Starling’s family and extended gratitude to the firefighters who responded. “We are thankful for the quick actions of the local fire departments in tackling the fire,” the Houston County Sheriff’s Office stated.
Fire departments from Crockett, Belott, Ratcliff, Hudson, Central, and Kennard all responded to the incident. The Houston County Fire Marshal’s Office is now investigating the cause of the fire.
Fire Marshal Heath Murff indicated that although the origin remains under investigation, he suspects the fire may have been caused by an electric heater burning through the floor. He also noted the home lacked smoke detectors and had inadequate exits.
