Victor Shaw dies in fatal Eaton Fire incident while defending family home
Fatal Eaton Fire death of Victor Shaw – Obituary
Victor Shaw, 66, was one of five confirmed victims of the devastating Eaton Fire, tragically passing away while attempting to protect his family’s home of nearly 55 years. His body was discovered by relatives on the roadside near the property, still clutching a garden hose in a final effort to save the house.
On Tuesday night, as the fire rapidly advanced, Victor’s sister, Shari Shaw, urged him to evacuate with her. Despite his health issues, which made mobility difficult, Victor chose to remain behind, determined to defend their home. Shari recounted how, moments after leaving, she saw their house engulfed in flames and had to flee for her safety.
Family friend Al Tanner described the harrowing discovery of Victor’s body the following morning, noting his dedication to saving their cherished home. Shari recalled being told that Victor appeared peaceful, lying on the ground as though at rest.
As of Thursday morning, hazardous conditions continued to prevent recovery efforts by the coroner’s office. The Eaton Fire, which has burned 10,600 acres, remains under investigation.
It is one of several major wildfires currently raging in the Los Angeles area, with the Palisades Fire, Hurst Fire, Lidia Fire, and Sunset Fire also prompting widespread evacuations and significant destruction.
