Fatal St. Roch neighborhood shooting death of Geron Elzie – Obituary

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of 38-year-old Geron Elzie as the victim of a deadly shooting in the St. Roch neighborhood earlier this week.

Police were called to the scene around 12:19 p.m. on Tuesday at the intersection of North Galvez Street and Elysian Fields Avenue. Upon arrival, officers discovered Elzie suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency responders pronounced him dead at the scene, according to the New Orleans Police Department.

Investigators placed more than 10 evidence markers near Elzie’s body, located between a local food store and a snowball stand. A nearby resident recalled hearing several gunshots in rapid succession.

The coroner’s preliminary report attributed Elzie’s death to a gunshot wound.
