Jerod and Jerel Wert die in fatal Arlington Memorial Bridge crash
Fatal Arlington Memorial Bridge crash death of Jerod and Jerel Wert – Obituary
Jerod and Jerel Wert, twin brothers from Chesapeake Beach, Maryland, both 52 years old, tragically lost their lives after their vehicle plunged off the Arlington Memorial Bridge into the Potomac River last Thursday.
The incident occurred on January 16 when their pickup truck, traveling in the rightmost lane, collided with a car ahead of it. The truck veered across all lanes, struck a pedestrian walkway, and ultimately broke through the bridge’s side barrier, plunging into the icy waters below. Dashcam footage captured by a driver behind them showed the vehicle swerving and crashing into the railing before falling into the river.
Emergency divers initially rescued one of the brothers from the submerged vehicle and transported him to a hospital in critical condition. Unfortunately, he succumbed to his injuries overnight. The second brother was discovered deceased inside the truck when it was recovered from the river the following day.
Authorities have not disclosed which of the brothers was driving, and the cause of the crash remains under investigation.
The collision also left two other individuals injured. One person was hospitalized with minor injuries, while the other declined medical treatment.
This tragic event has left the Wert family and their community mourning the untimely loss of two lives.
