Mark Omand dies in fatal Burlington Beltline crash
Fatal Burlington Beltline crash death of Mark Omand – Obituary.
Mark Omand, an 18-year-old resident of Essex Junction, lost his life in a high-speed collision on Vermont Route 127, also known as the Beltline, on the evening of January 15, 2025.
Burlington police reported that Omand was driving an Audi at a high speed when it crossed the median near the North Avenue interchange and collided with a Jeep. Omand was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep, identified as 45-year-old Derek Lorrain of Burlington, had to be extricated from the vehicle by the Burlington Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
No other individuals were involved in the crash. Route 127 was closed for several hours as authorities conducted their investigation, with the roadway reopening just before midnight. The circumstances leading up to the collision are still under investigation.
