Fatal Nicholas County car crash death of Mathew Clay – Obituary

Authorities in Nicholas County, West Virginia, have confirmed the discovery of 31-year-old Mathew Clay’s body after he went missing following a crash on January 10.

Clay, a resident of Craigsville, reportedly fled the accident scene around 2 a.m. that morning. His family reported him missing later that day. Investigators found footprints in the snow near the crash site, but they did not lead to him.

On January 22, a search team consisting of local firefighters and neighbors located Clay’s body on Crupperneck Road, about 100 yards from where the crash occurred. Officials stated there were no signs of foul play, and preliminary findings suggest he died from hypothermia. His body was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for further examination.
