Heather Ann Barela dies in fatal Santa Clara shooting

Heather Ann Barela dies in fatal Santa Clara shooting

Fatal Santa Clara shooting death of Heather Ann Barela – Obituary

Authorities in Santa Clara, Utah, have identified the woman killed in a Thursday night shooting as 44-year-old Heather Ann Barela. A second victim, 20-year-old Brandon Alfred Barela, suffered a gunshot wound and was transported to St. George Regional Hospital for medical care.

The incident, which initially appeared to be a home invasion, prompted an immediate response from Santa Clara-Ivins police at approximately 11 p.m. near Santa Clara View Drive and Circle Drive. Officers arrived to find two victims inside a residence—one deceased and the other injured.

A shelter-in-place order was briefly enforced in the area as officials investigated. However, after further interviews with those inside the home, police determined that the shooting was not the result of an unknown intruder.

A juvenile family member has since been arrested and faces multiple charges, including felony murder, felony discharge of a firearm, and aggravated assault. Due to the suspect’s minor status, booking records remain unavailable.

The investigation is ongoing, and authorities encourage anyone with relevant information to contact the Santa Clara-Ivins Police Department at (435) 1122.
