Authorities have identified the woman who lost her life in a solo-vehicle crash on Saturday afternoon in Rancho Cordova.
Maria Lourdes Martinez, 55, of Citrus Heights, was driving south on Sunrise Boulevard when her Ford Explorer veered off the road and crashed into a concrete divider wall in a canal near Bosphorus Drive around 4:30 p.m., according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office.
Emergency responders from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived at the scene and pronounced Martinez dead.
The crash resulted in the closure of southbound Sunrise Boulevard between Chrysanthy Boulevard and Justinian Drive.
The California Highway Patrol is investigating the cause of the crash, and it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played a role.
