A tragic car crash on U.S. Route 42 in Morrow County claimed the life of 20-year-old Summer Kennard, a part-time police officer for both Bellville and Butler police departments.
According to authorities, the accident occurred early Monday when a Toyota RAV4 veered off the right side of the road. The driver attempted to correct course but instead crossed into oncoming traffic, where the vehicle was struck by a Ford F-150.
Kennard, who was behind the wheel of the Toyota, was transported to Morrow County Hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. The Ohio State Highway Patrol does not suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash. The driver of the Ford suffered only minor injuries.
Kennard had been serving as a police officer for just over six months. The Butler Police Department expressed deep sorrow over her passing, emphasizing the lasting impact she had on the community. Bellville police also shared their grief, extending condolences to her family and friends.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
