Sherman D. McCraney, 18, tragically lost his life in a shooting on Friday night, February 7, 2025, in Urbana, Illinois. The incident occurred at approximately 8:22 p.m. when police responded to a report of shots fired on the 2000 block of Vawter Street.
Officers arrived to find McCraney, who had been shot multiple times, and immediately began performing life-saving measures. Despite their efforts, he was transported to Carle Foundation Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 9 p.m.
An autopsy has been scheduled, and Urbana police, in collaboration with the coroner’s office, continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Authorities are actively canvassing the area for witnesses and video evidence, urging anyone with information to come forward.
