Ca’myiah Simmons, a 16-year-old student at Sylvan Hills High School in Sherwood, Arkansas, tragically passed away on January 31, 2025, due to complications from the flu. The high school junior’s death has left the school community mourning the loss of one of their own.
Simmons’ passing was confirmed by the Pulaski County Special School District, which expressed its sorrow in a statement. Funeral services for Ca’myiah will be held on February 15, 2025, at Mount Pisgah Baptist Church.
The flu season this year has been reported as the most severe in 15 years, with cases particularly widespread across the South and Southwest regions of the United States.
