Fatal Spring shooting death of Jaden Reese – Obituary

The family of 18-year-old Jaden Reese is mourning his loss after he was fatally shot in Spring, Texas, on Friday.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting took place in the afternoon on Hickory Twig Way near Cypresswood Drive. Investigators said two groups of young men had arranged to meet for a marijuana transaction. During the exchange, an attempted robbery occurred, leading to Jaden, who was driving a vehicle, being shot multiple times. He was transported to the hospital but did not survive his injuries.

Jaden’s mother, Deanna Reese, is struggling to come to terms with her son’s death. She recalled her last conversation with him, a FaceTime call where they exchanged “I love yous,” just an hour before she received the devastating news.

Family and friends gathered at Deanna’s home on Saturday night for a balloon release in Jaden’s memory. His loved ones described him as a caring and protective person who was always willing to help others. Deanna called him her “gentle giant” and “protector,” remembering how he would drop everything to assist someone in need.

Jaden’s siblings shared their grief, reminiscing about their time playing basketball together and expressing how much they will miss him. His brother Jermiah Reese recalled their shared love for the sport, while Joshua Reese and Jasmin Reese emphasized how Jaden’s memory will always be cherished within the family.

Two teenagers have been arrested in connection with the shooting. Jerod Jones, 17, faces a murder charge, while 18-year-old Lloyd Lewis is charged with tampering with evidence. Jones was given a $150,000 bond, with court documents stating that he intentionally shot Jaden. The judge noted that Jones was already out on bond for other charges and was not legally allowed to possess a firearm. If released, he will be under house arrest with an ankle monitor.

Lewis, held on a $30,000 bond, is accused of returning to the crime scene to collect evidence, including shell casings and money, in an attempt to hide them.

Deanna Reese said she had never seen or heard of Jones or Lewis before the incident and does not believe Jaden knew them either. She is still searching for more answers about what led to the fatal encounter.

Both suspects are scheduled to appear in court again on Monday.
