Rodney Wesley dies in fatal Florida crash
Fatal Florida crash death of Rodney Wesley – Obituary
A 20-year-old man, Rodney Wesley, was involved in a deadly wrong-way crash on February 3, which led to a chain of events resulting in his arrest.
Wesley, who had stolen a vehicle, caused the fatal crash on Interstate 295 in Florida, where he struck a 66-year-old motorcyclist, who was killed in the incident. The crash led to a pileup that closed the interstate for several hours.
Wesley had begun his crime spree on February 3 by stealing a Lexus from a man at a gas station. After abandoning the car, he went on to steal another vehicle the following day.
The police reported that Wesley carjacked a truck and caused the deadly accident while driving the wrong way on the highway.
During the crash aftermath, Wesley attempted to steal another vehicle but managed to escape by clinging to the side of a semi-truck.
Authorities later found the stolen vehicle abandoned with blood on the seats and a backpack matching one seen during an earlier carjacking.
Wesley was eventually arrested after a brief chase with officers on February 6, and is now facing multiple charges, including vehicular homicide and armed carjacking. His bond has been set at $2.58 million.
