On February 9, 2025, two fatal crashes occurred in Ngāhinapōuri, Waikato, leaving two individuals dead. Police have identified the victims as 60-year-old Peter Brett Van Syp from Dinsdale, Hamilton, and 45-year-old Jarrod Donald Pedersen from Rukuhia.
The first incident involved Van Syp, who died at the scene of a single-vehicle crash on Kakaramea Rd (State Highway 39) at around 8:55 a.m. Less than 24 hours later, Pedersen was killed in a separate crash on Oregan Rd at approximately 7:45 p.m.
Authorities have confirmed that the crashes were unrelated and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding each incident.
