Fatal Mt. Pleasant Township vehicle collapse death of John R. Hess – Obituary

John R. Hess, 54, of Mt. Pleasant Township, tragically lost his life on February 6, 2025, when he became pinned under the axle of his truck at his residence. Hess, a respected local official and dedicated farmer, was working under his vehicle when the incident occurred.

 

The Adams County Coroner’s Office confirmed his death, and firefighters arrived at his home after a report of the accident.

Despite their efforts, Hess was found trapped under the front axle of the truck. He had recently been elected to the Mt. Pleasant Township board of supervisors in November 2024.

 

Hess, a prominent member of the farming community, was a part-owner of the JOBO Holstein Farms and had a deep passion for agriculture.

He had also served as the president of the Adams County Farm Bureau and as a member-owner of the Land-O-Lakes Co-op board. In 2023, he was part of a group that traveled to Washington, D.C. to advocate for the farm bill.

 

His obituary highlights his love for family, his devotion to farming, and his contributions to the local community.
