Fatal North Bergen hit-and-run death of Maximo Rodriguez – Obituary
Maximo Rodriguez, a 24-year-old man from Fort Lee, was charged in connection with a fatal hit-and-run incident that occurred in North Bergen on February 10.
Rodriguez faces charges of leaving the scene of a collision that resulted in the death of 52-year-old Nestor Naira-Ojeda, a North Bergen resident. Naira-Ojeda was struck by a vehicle at the intersection of Tonnelle Avenue and 91st Street, where he was found unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene.
A Jeep Grand Cherokee driver remained at the location, but a second vehicle, a box truck driven by Rodriguez, fled the scene.
Following an investigation led by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit, Rodriguez was arrested on February 13 at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus. He was released pending his court appearance.
The investigation was conducted by the North Bergen Police Department and the Regional Collision Investigation Unit, with the latter identifying Rodriguez as the truck’s operator.
