Authorities in Lincoln, Nebraska, have confirmed that 21-year-old Michelle Gonzalez was shot and killed on Wednesday by a man she had sought legal protection against earlier the same day.
Police responded to a domestic disturbance call around 12:30 p.m., where witnesses reported seeing Gonzalez struck by a black vehicle.
Two bystanders assisted her into their car, but the driver of the other vehicle, later identified as 28-year-old Ibrahim Alhamadani, pursued them. He then crashed into their car, forcing both vehicles to a stop.
Alhamadani exited his car, approached Gonzalez, and shot her multiple times, hitting her in the head, chest, and abdomen before turning the gun on himself.
Emergency responders found Alhamadani dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Gonzalez was rushed to the hospital with critical injuries but succumbed to them later that evening.
Just hours before the attack, Gonzalez had filed for and been granted a protection order against Alhamadani, citing an earlier assault where he allegedly beat her with a gun while intoxicated. The order had not yet been served at the time of the shooting.
Police records show Alhamadani had prior domestic violence charges, including two previous protection orders filed against him by different women.
He was on parole for a past domestic violence conviction when the attack occurred. The investigation into the case remains ongoing.
