Fatal Rockford pedestrian crash death of Alan Varela – Obituary
Alan Varela, a 48-year-old man from Rockford, tragically passed away after being struck by a vehicle on the night of April 18, 2025. The incident occurred around 11:05 p.m. at the intersection of North Second and Auburn streets.
Authorities reported that a bystander had attempted to perform CPR on Varela before he was transported to a local hospital. Despite efforts to save him, he was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
The Winnebago County Coroner’s Office determined that the cause of death was blunt trauma to the head, chest, and abdomen, resulting from the crash.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, which is being handled by Rockford police and the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office.
