Julio Matamoros dies in fatal Marion shooting
Fatal Marion shooting death of Julio Matamoros – Obituary
Seventeen-year-old Julio Matamoros lost his life following a shooting incident in Marion, Indiana, on Monday. Matamoros, a senior and baseball player at Mississinewa High School, died from a gunshot wound after being found by police on South Western Avenue.
Officers responded to the scene and discovered the teen injured on the ground. Before he succumbed to his injuries, Matamoros reportedly identified the shooter as “Cordel.”
Investigators later named 18-year-old Cordel Bice as the primary suspect and linked him to a vehicle seen speeding away after the shooting. Authorities say the confrontation began over vape cartridges Bice was allegedly trying to buy from Matamoros.
Bice was arrested and initially charged with attempted murder and robbery causing serious bodily harm. He was taken to the Grant County Jail, though he no longer appears in the online inmate records.
At the time of reporting, formal charges have not yet been filed. Efforts to get an update from the Grant County Prosecutor’s Office are ongoing.
A GoFundMe campaign has been set up to assist Matamoros’ family with funeral expenses and medical bills.
