Salvador Diaz dies in fatal Colorado Springs car crash

Salvador Diaz dies in fatal Colorado Springs car crash

Fatal Colorado Springs car crash death of Salvador Diaz – Obituary

Authorities have identified 21-year-old Salvador Diaz as the man who lost his life following a crash earlier this month on Interstate 25 near Garden of the Gods Road in Colorado Springs.

Investigators say that although the incident was initially described as a road rage event, it’s now believed two vehicles were possibly racing on the highway. During a lane change, one of those cars collided with a truck that wasn’t involved in the race. That truck then veered out of control and struck Diaz’s vehicle, which was also not part of the race.

The impact caused Diaz to crash into the center median and become airborne. He succumbed to his injuries shortly afterward.

This marks the seventh traffic-related fatality in Colorado Springs so far this year, a decrease from the 16 deaths reported by the same time last year. Police noted there have been 41 traffic fatalities in the past 12 months.

Durriel Humphrey was arrested at the scene and is facing charges including vehicular homicide, vehicular assault, and reckless driving. According to police records, Humphrey claimed another driver was tailgating him before cutting him off, prompting him to speed up and ultimately crash into Diaz’s car. Witnesses reported seeing one of the involved vehicles flee after the collision.
