Fatal Pickerington shooting death of Kamal Walters – Obituary
A Columbus man, 23-year-old Kamal Walters, was fatally shot multiple times early Friday morning at a residence in Pickerington. Authorities have arrested a suspect in connection with the case.
Pickerington Police responded to a call at approximately 3:45 a.m. regarding a shooting at a home on Montmorency Drive in the Cherry Hill subdivision. The caller reported that an individual had been shot several times.
Upon arrival, officers and emergency responders found Walters suffering from gunshot wounds inside the home. He was transported to Mount Carmel East hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
Shortly after, police located a suspect vehicle on Hill Road, just north of Diley Road, and initiated a traffic stop. The driver, identified as 19-year-old Samuel Stallworth of Pickerington, complied with officers’ commands and was taken into custody without incident. Authorities recovered two firearms from the vehicle.
Investigators determined that Walters, Stallworth, and two women were inside the home at the time of the shooting. According to police, an argument broke out between the two men, ultimately leading to Walters being shot. The other occupants were not injured.
Stallworth has been charged with murder, though police indicate that additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.
