Steven Adkins dies in fatal Floyd County shooting

Fatal Floyd County shooting death of Steven Adkins – Obituary

Steven Adkins, 48, of Prestonsburg, lost his life following a shooting that occurred on Friday afternoon, April 25, in the Auxier area of Floyd County, Kentucky.

Kentucky State Police were alerted to the incident around 2:57 p.m. After investigating, troopers determined that Adkins had been fatally shot during a confrontation with 67-year-old Larry Johnson of Auxier. Adkins was transported to Highlands ARH Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Authorities say that after the altercation, Johnson fled the scene on foot. He abandoned his vehicle and disappeared into a wooded area near Jane Brown Branch. A warrant has since been issued for his arrest on a murder charge.

Troopers reported that Johnson was last seen wearing a blue flannel shirt and blue jeans. The public is urged to contact Kentucky State Police Post 9 at (606) 433-7711 if they have any information on his whereabouts.

Earlier in the day, the incident prompted a closure of KY-321 near the Auxier Bridge due to the ongoing police response. The investigation remains active as officials work to locate the suspect and gather more details.
