The Florida State University community is in mourning after a tragic shooting on April 17, 2025, which claimed the lives of two victims and left six others injured. Tiru Chabba, a 45-year-old father and husband who worked for a campus vendor, was one of the two victims killed in the attack.
The shooting occurred when 20-year-old FSU student Phoenix Ikner opened fire near the student center. According to Tallahassee police, Ikner arrived at a campus parking garage around 11 a.m. and stayed there for about an hour before leaving. At approximately 11:56 a.m., Ikner began shooting, and police were alerted by 11:58 a.m. Officers confronted Ikner around noon, shooting and taking him into custody. He remains hospitalized in stable condition and is expected to survive.
Chabba’s family, devastated by the loss, expressed their grief, with attorney Bakari Sellers sharing the unimaginable pain they now face. The other victim, Robert Morales, was a former assistant football coach at Leon High School, where he was known for his dedication and leadership.
