Fatal Channelview car crash death of Crystal Njepu – Obituary
Crystal Njepu has been identified as the woman who tragically died after her car plunged into the San Jacinto River in Channelview. Authorities reported that both Njepu and her infant daughter were pronounced dead at the scene.
The heartbreaking incident unfolded on Friday around 4:45 p.m. when deputies were dispatched to a branch of the San Jacinto River along Market Street. Officials from Harris County explained that Crystal Njepu had been driving westbound when she may have experienced a medical emergency, causing her vehicle to veer off the road.
Her car left the pavement, crossed a gravel patch and a grassy area before entering the river. The vehicle quickly submerged, and the current carried it underneath a nearby bridge. Despite efforts from authorities, Njepu and her one-year-old daughter could not be saved.
A witness bravely entered the water, shattered the rear window, and rescued two children trapped inside the vehicle. The rescued children, believed to be around five and seven years old, were rushed to a nearby hospital and are expected to recover.
At this time, no further details have been released. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
