Fatal Fond du Lac police shooting death of Jesus Armando Mendez Berry – Obituary
Jesus Armando Mendez Berry, 26, was fatally shot by a Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Office deputy on February 25 after allegedly brandishing a pellet gun during an encounter with law enforcement.
According to the Wisconsin Department of Justice, Berry had called the sheriff’s office to turn himself in for an outstanding warrant. However, when deputies arrived, he reportedly did not comply with their commands and later pulled out what was later identified as a Gamo 430 CO2 Pellet/BB Handgun.
A sheriff’s sergeant, identified as Andrew Kohlmann, fired at Berry. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
The shooting remains under investigation, and per standard procedure, Sergeant Kohlmann has been placed on administrative assignment while authorities continue their review.
