Jose Alcazar dies in fatal Ravenswood house fire
Fatal Ravenswood house fire death of Jose Alcazar – Obituary
An 81-year-old man, identified as Jose Alcazar, lost his life in a house fire that broke out in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood Thursday evening.
Chicago Fire Department crews responded to the blaze in the 5100 block of North Oakley Avenue around 5:30 p.m. The fire produced intense flames and heavy smoke that spread across multiple blocks.
Alcazar was rescued from the attic of the home and transported to Swedish Covenant Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to fire officials.
The fire spread rapidly through the two-story apartment duplex, making it difficult for firefighters to contain. Deputy District Chief Kelly Burns stated that Truck 47 arrived to find the second floor engulfed in flames. Dispatchers alerted responders that a person was trapped in the attic.
The close proximity of neighboring homes added to the challenge of preventing the fire from spreading further. Despite these difficulties, no firefighters were injured.
Two families have been displaced due to the damage.
Authorities have not yet determined the cause of the fire.
