An off-duty Tyler police officer, Sam Lively, tragically passed away Friday evening following a motorcycle crash. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Troup Highway, near the Loop 323 intersection, when a vehicle changed lanes and struck Lively’s motorcycle while both were traveling southbound.

Lively, who had recently graduated from the police academy and completed field training, was rushed to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. The Tyler Police Department expressed deep sorrow, remembering Lively as a promising officer and an outstanding individual dedicated to serving his community.
