On March 5, 2025, Phoenix police responded to a call near I-17 and Van Buren Street regarding an injured person. Upon arrival, officers discovered 43-year-old Brandy Thornton seriously injured on the sidewalk. Despite attempts to assist, she was pronounced dead at the scene.
