Glendon A. Sumner dies in fatal Norfolk officer-involved shooting

Fatal Norfolk officer-involved shooting death of Glendon A. Sumner – Obituary

Glendon A. Sumner, 38, was involved in a shooting with Norfolk police officers early Sunday morning on Monticello Avenue.

Police were called to an apartment complex in the 400 block of Monticello Avenue after reports of a person with a weapon. Upon arrival, officers encountered Sumner, who was holding a firearm.

Despite officers’ commands to drop the weapon, Sumner did not comply, prompting the officers to open fire. Sumner was injured but is expected to recover from non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

He was subsequently charged with brandishing a firearm and reckless handling of a firearm. The Virginia State Police are investigating the incident.
