Fatal Austin shooting death of Samantha Fernandez – Obituary

Samantha Fernandez, 22, was shot and killed late Sunday night in the parking lot of The Jordan at Mueller Apartments in Austin, Texas.

According to the Austin Police Department, officers responded to multiple 911 calls around 10:15 p.m. and found Fernandez unresponsive with a gunshot wound. She was declared dead at the scene at 10:42 p.m.

Investigators determined that Fernandez had gone outside to meet someone in a pickup truck that had pulled into the lot. The man inside, identified as 22-year-old Gonzalo Mendoza-Gonzalez, allegedly shot her before fleeing the scene. The truck later broke down in Kerrville, where Mendoza-Gonzalez was apprehended and charged with first-degree murder.

This case marks Austin’s 21st homicide of the year. The police investigation remains active, and authorities are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact APD or Capital Area Crime Stoppers.
