Fatal Granville head-on collision death of Michael P. Carman – Obituary
Michael P. Carman, 45, lost his life in a head-on collision on Church Street in Granville on Wednesday, March 5. Authorities confirmed his identity following the tragic accident.
Carman, a resident of Church Street, was pronounced dead at the scene when emergency responders arrived. According to Officer Mark Nelson, Carman was not wearing a seat belt, and there was no indication that alcohol played a role in the crash. Investigators believe a mechanical failure or a possible medical emergency may have caused the incident, as he was traveling within a 20-mph speed zone.
Reports indicate that Carman’s vehicle veered into the wrong lane while heading north, resulting in a collision with another car traveling south. The second vehicle, a 2023 Toyota Camry driven by 80-year-old Bruce Call, sustained extensive damage, including deployed airbags, a shattered windshield, and a severely damaged front end. Call was taken to Rutland Regional Medical Center with minor injuries.
Authorities note that accidents often occur close to home, with data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration showing that more than half of fatal crashes happen within 25 miles of a driver’s residence.
The crash was investigated by Chief Ernest Bassett, Sgt. Joshua Whitney, and Officers Mark Nelson, Bryan Greco, and Matt Brayman, with assistance from the State Police, Granville Fire Department, and Granville EMS.
