The driver of a truck that crashed on the Massachusetts Turnpike early Monday morning has been identified. Jose Parzdes Almonte, 29, of Elizabeth, New Jersey, was killed in the accident that occurred around 1 a.m. near the Westborough-Grafton line.
Almonte was driving a tractor-trailer when it veered off the eastbound side of the highway and went down an embankment. Initially, state troopers could not find Almonte in the cab of the truck, but he was later located nearby and rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. A second vehicle was also involved in the crash, and its driver was taken to the hospital, though their condition has not been released. The crash caused significant traffic delays during the morning commute as the rig was removed from the scene.
