Fatal Spokane Valley car crash death of Caden Richardson – Obituary
A tragic single-car accident late Friday night in Spokane Valley claimed the life of 21-year-old Caden Richardson.
According to the Spokane County Medical Examiner’s Office, Richardson succumbed to blunt force injuries, and his death was ruled accidental.
Authorities responded around 11:15 p.m. after a vehicle veered off the road and collided with a fence near South Rotchford Drive and South Galway Lane. Deputies arrived to find a severely damaged Subaru entangled in a chain-link fence. Richardson, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was critically injured. Despite efforts to administer aid, he did not survive.
Investigators determined the Subaru had been traveling at speeds between 55 and 60 mph in a 25 mph zone. Witnesses reported that the driver was operating the vehicle erratically, forcing another motorist to swerve to avoid a potential collision. Shortly after, the Subaru struck a curb and crashed into the fence.
A witness who approached the wreckage found Richardson unresponsive and attempted chest compressions until emergency crews arrived. Meanwhile, deputies noted signs of impairment in the driver, who was taken to the hospital for medical evaluation.
Following an investigation, authorities determined there was probable cause to charge the driver with vehicular homicide due to reckless and impaired driving. After receiving medical clearance, the driver was taken into custody and booked into the Spokane County Jail.
