Authorities have released the names of the four individuals who lost their lives after an SUV slammed into a building in Waterbury, causing part of the structure to collapse.
The collision occurred shortly before 1 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Maple Avenue and Cherry Street. Emergency crews responded to a report of a single vehicle that had crashed into a building.
According to officials, the SUV had four occupants. Three of them were declared dead at the scene, while the fourth was taken to a local hospital and later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Police identified the deceased as 20-year-old Kayden Torres, 25-year-old Nelson Torres, 15-year-old Noel Torres, and 20-year-old Johnaven Puszka, all residents of Waterbury.
Initial investigations suggest that the vehicle, a BMW X5, was heading north on Baldwin Street when it crossed East Main Street and the driver lost control. The SUV then slammed into a building at 45 Cherry Street, leading to a partial collapse.
Authorities continue to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident, with speed believed to have played a significant role.
