John McQuillen, 65, was identified as the victim of a deadly shooting that took place Wednesday morning in Middletown.
Officers from the Middletown Police Department responded to a report of gunfire and a person lying on the ground at 7:30 a.m. on Winter Springs Court. McQuillen was rushed to UofL Hospital with critical injuries but later succumbed to a single gunshot wound, according to the Jefferson County Coroner’s Office.
While processing the scene, police discovered a “suspicious package,” prompting the Louisville Metro Police Department’s bomb squad to intervene and render it safe.
Authorities stated there is no ongoing public threat, but investigators later located a Chevrolet box truck believed to be connected to the case. The driver of the vehicle was considered a person of interest, and police suspected the truck might contain an explosive device.
