A 74-year-old woman lost her life early Saturday morning after being struck by a vehicle in Fresno, authorities confirmed.
The Fresno County Coroner’s Office identified the victim as Maria Paredes of Fresno. According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on Clinton Avenue, east of Bond Street.
Paredes, who was using a walker, was in the westbound lanes when she was hit by a Toyota Avalon. The driver immediately stopped, called 911, and cooperated with authorities. Investigators stated that drugs and alcohol were not believed to be factors in the crash.
Officials noted that the area where the accident took place is particularly dark due to a lack of streetlights, as it is located in a county pocket. The investigation is still ongoing.
