Fatal Syracuse shooting death of Jeremiah Huff – Obituary
An 11-year-old boy who was killed in a double homicide Monday night in Syracuse has been identified as Jeremiah Huff, a sixth-grader at Gillette Road Middle School, according to North Syracuse Central School District Superintendent Terry Ward.
Ward described Jeremiah as a well-liked student who had a love for skiing and skateboarding.
Authorities say Jeremiah and a 33-year-old woman were shot and killed by his father, David M. Huff. Onondaga County District Attorney William Fitzpatrick confirmed the details, though Syracuse police have not officially released the victims’ names.
The two were found dead inside a home on Roney Road late Monday night. Police responded to 128 Roney Road following a dispatch call from the county’s 911 center.
David Huff was taken into custody Tuesday morning around 9:30 a.m. near the area where the incident occurred. Officers located him after receiving a tip from someone who saw him walking along West Seneca Turnpike.
He has been charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, and fourth-degree criminal possession of a weapon, according to court records.
Authorities say the woman killed had been in a romantic relationship with Huff.
Gillette Road Middle School has arranged counseling services for students and staff from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday.
