Fatal Milwaukee shooting death of Brenisha Butcher – Obituary

Brenisha Butcher, 33, lost her life in a shooting early Sunday morning outside Bar 107 Sports Bar and Grill. In response to the incident, business owner Alpesh Patel has decided to shut down the establishment permanently.

The shooting occurred around 1:07 a.m. near the 8700 block of North Granville Road, leaving Butcher fatally wounded and her 30-year-old sister injured. Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed Butcher’s identity, while her family declined to comment publicly. Reports indicate she was inside a vehicle across the street from the bar when she succumbed to her injuries.

Authorities arrested a 30-year-old woman on Sunday, followed by a second arrest of a 49-year-old woman on Tuesday. Milwaukee police stated that charges would be forwarded to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office.

The bar’s closure follows pressure from Ald. Larresa Taylor, who criticized the business for failing to ensure customer safety. In a statement, Taylor emphasized the importance of security measures for establishments serving the public. She later confirmed that Patel surrendered his business license, making the closure permanent.

City records indicate Patel acquired the bar in 2014 and later transferred ownership to an LLC. Since August 2016, the location has been the subject of over 500 police call log entries. Previous attempts to revoke its license in 2017 were unsuccessful due to administrative issues.

Butcher’s death adds to at least 20 homicides reported in Milwaukee so far this year, marking a 9% decrease compared to the same period last year and a 33% drop from two years ago.
