Fatal Santa Cruz Mountains shooting death of Colter White – Obituary
Authorities in California have arrested a suspect in connection with the deaths of two men found shot in a pickup truck last month in the Santa Cruz Mountains. One of the victims was identified as 42-year-old Colter White, a resident of Boulder Creek.
James Collier, 66, also from Boulder Creek, was taken into custody early Sunday and charged with two counts of murder following an investigation by the California Highway Patrol.
Colter White and another man, Sean Pfeffer, were discovered deceased in the back of a truck on March 23. Investigators believe the shooting occurred that same day.
Court records indicate that Collier reportedly admitted the killings to a friend, claiming he had been threatened by the victims.
A chilling Facebook message posted by Pfeffer on the day of the killings appeared to foretell his fate, explicitly naming Collier and suggesting a confrontation was imminent.
Colter White’s sister, Mink Perez, and his wife, Stacy White, expressed their heartbreak outside the courthouse in San Jose, where Collier was scheduled for arraignment. Stacy vowed to attend every hearing to ensure justice is served.
Collier remains in custody without bail, and his arraignment has been postponed to Wednesday to allow time for legal counsel to be appointed.
