A tragic incident unfolded in Akron on Monday evening, where two individuals were found dead in an apartment in what is believed to be a murder-suicide.
Akron police responded to the residence in the 20 block of S. Highland Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. after receiving a welfare check request from a concerned friend who had been unable to contact 44-year-old Jessica Leigh Violand.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered Violand’s body with a gunshot wound to the head. The Summit County Medical Examiner ruled her death a homicide. Also found at the scene was 26-year-old Elliot Hareem Altesa, who had also suffered a gunshot wound to the head. His death was ruled a suicide.
Captain Michael Miller from Akron Police mentioned that while the exact relationship between the two has not been confirmed, it is something that will be determined through the ongoing investigation. Authorities also stated that there is no immediate threat to the community.
