Fatal Monroe County car crash death of Bobby Cross – Obituary
Authorities have identified Bobby Cross, a 62-year-old man from Ellettsville, as the individual who lost his life in a deadly head-on crash that occurred on April 26 on Ind. 46, just west of Bloomington, Indiana.
According to the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office, Cross was driving eastbound in a 2007 Mercury Milan when his vehicle veered across the wide grass median and entered the westbound lanes of Ind. 46 near Hunter Valley Road. He then collided head-on with an SUV and another car.
Cross was transported to IU Health-Bloomington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after the crash, which happened around 2:30 p.m. The drivers of the other two vehicles sustained injuries and were also taken to the hospital for treatment.
Monroe County Coroner Jeff Hall stated that the official cause and manner of Cross’s death are pending the results of an autopsy and toxicology tests. Meanwhile, a GoFundMe page organized by family members suggests Cross may have experienced a medical episode that contributed to the accident.
His niece, who started the fundraiser to help with funeral and burial costs, expressed that his death was unexpected and asked for prayers and support for both their family and the other individuals affected by the incident.
The final accident report had not yet been submitted to state officials as of Monday. Indiana State Road 46 remained closed for several hours following the crash to allow for a thorough investigation by accident reconstruction specialists.
