Fatal Miami shooting death of Jalen Alexander Spence – Obituary
Miami police are currently investigating a deadly shooting that took place early Wednesday morning in the city’s Brickell neighborhood. Officers responded to reports of the incident near Southwest First Avenue and Eighth Street around 12:45 a.m.
When they arrived, they found 24-year-old Jalen Alexander Spence lying in the street after being shot. Unfortunately, he was declared dead at the scene.
According to Officer Kiara Delva, the investigation reveals that an argument between Spence and a woman escalated before the shooting.
Authorities state that Spence allegedly struck the woman, leading to a confrontation. A man who was with the woman saw Spence pointing a gun at her and, in an act of defense, shot Spence, ultimately killing him.
Police are working alongside the Miami-Dade State Attorney’s Office to determine if the shooting falls under self-defense laws. At the crime scene, detectives placed several evidence markers around the area, while officers took photographs and roped off the area.
One nearby resident sent a photo showing two individuals in handcuffs shortly after the shooting, which police later confirmed were possible witnesses.
Investigators are currently reviewing surveillance footage from nearby buildings to verify witness statements.
Authorities have not identified the shooter yet, and it’s still unclear if charges will be filed. No suspects are on the loose, and police are urging anyone with information to come forward and contact the Miami Police Department or Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers.
